About the Founder

Dr. Preethi Reddy

Dr. Preethi Reddy is an anaesthesiologist based in Bengaluru, with a particular interest in making perioperative care safer, more thoughtful and more sustainable.

Her work in anaesthesia has led her to look closely at the many decisions that happen around surgery, often before a patient ever enters the operating theatre. Pre-anaesthesia assessment, airway management, patient safety, perioperative medicine and the practical use of evidence in everyday clinical care are among the areas that interest her most.

Over the years, her interests have also extended beyond the immediate clinical aspects of anaesthesia. She has been closely involved with sustainable anaesthesia and the environmental impact of operating theatres, and is the Founder-Trustee of the Green Theatre Trust. Her work in this area has focused on how changes in everyday anaesthetic practice can reduce waste, emissions and the environmental footprint of healthcare without compromising patient care.

She is also interested in how technology may improve anaesthesia and airway management, including the use of artificial intelligence and computer vision in video laryngoscopy.

Alongside medicine, she has pursued postgraduate study in medical law and ethics and in environmental law at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. These interests have shaped the way she approaches questions of patient safety, professional responsibility, research, sustainability and health policy.

Why Preanaesthesia

Preanaesthesia began with a simple observation: a great deal happens before anaesthesia begins, yet patients are often given very little explanation of what the pre-anaesthesia process is for, what they need to do, or why particular tests, referrals or changes in medication may be recommended.

For clinicians too, useful information is often spread across multiple guidelines, textbooks and professional recommendations, making it harder than it should be to find a clear answer quickly.

Preanaesthesia brings this information together in one place.

For patients, the aim is to explain what happens before anaesthesia in clear, straightforward language and help them understand how to prepare for surgery.

For healthcare professionals, the Clinician Reference section brings together selected evidence, guidance and practical pre-anaesthesia information in a form designed to be easy to navigate and use.

The site reflects Dr. Reddy's approach to anaesthesia: asking questions, going back to the evidence, understanding the reasoning behind a decision, and making that knowledge easier to understand and use.

Preanaesthesia provides general educational information. It does not provide individual medical advice and does not replace the advice of a patient's own anaesthesiologist, surgeon or treating healthcare team. Professional material on the site is intended as a reference and does not replace formal guidelines, institutional protocols or individual clinical judgement.
